About Anita Russell

After 20 years of creating award-winning papier-mâché sculptures featured on TV and many commissioned artworks, I embarked on a transformative artistic journey in 2020 during isolation, discovering a new style that truly resonates with me.

A move to the coast coupled with a love for sailing deeply inspired my shift toward stitched textile paintings -a unique mixed media genre that blends vintage &man-made fabrics, acrylic paints, pastels, inks, hand sewing, mono-printing, mark making, and free motion embroidery.

My art canvases mounted on khadi paper capture the essence of the landscape and seascape around me, from abstract forms to detailed portrayals of local fauna and flora, beaches, boats, and especially sea birds, which I love for their character, freedom of movement and connection to the coastal environment.

Through layers of textiles, threads&various painting tools, I bring to life vibrant, textured pieces that celebrate both nature’s beauty and my evolving creative vision.
