I love mark-making and it really does not need expensive tools.

You can buy the mesh that sequins are cut out of (punchinella) – this can be bought very reasonably and you can use it as a stencil.

Or try painting and stamping with Lego, corrugated cardboard, bubble wrap or kitchen utensils. Credit cards make a great sharp line.

My favourite is mono printing with drief lavender. Don’t add water. Do a practice run and then push down hard with a piece of paper on top.

Are you using acrylics? I use them on canvas with a fabric medium. It’s a large bottle and has lasted me over three years. Scola do a litre for around £7. Make sure it’s the one for acrylic paint. Always make sure each layer is bone dry before you add marks.
